LANSING, MI — Winter is expected to be warmer and wetter than average. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says most of the state has a 33-to-40-percent chance of being warmer than normal.
The above normal temperatures of the Great Lakes will impact our winter weather. Forecasters say lake effect snow caused by cold air crossing warmer than usual lake water will result in prominent snowfall occasionally.
The same mild weather isn’t expected for the whole state. The western Upper Peninsula is expected to be normal for winter temperatures.
