DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State Senator Jim Runestad has been selected as the new chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, beating President Trump’s pick, Meshawn Maddock.
Runestad was selected Saturday at the party’s convention in Detroit with 63-percent support. Maddock still faces criminal charges from being a false elector in the 2020 presidential election. Runestad says he will keep his Senate seat.
The Democrats elected former state Senator Curtis Hertel as their new chairman over the weekend. Hertel succeeds Lavora Barnes and was elected after Al Williams dropped out of the race.
