EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees on Friday gave the go ahead to a new sports arena along with a hotel and retail space on about 14 acres at the northeast corner of Trowbridge Road and Harrison Road. The project, dubbed the Spartan Gateway Project, will partner the school with Lansing developer Pat Gillespie for the project.
Plans call for a 6,000 seat sports arena to house MSU gymnastics, wrestling and volleyball. The arena could be operational by late 2027. The new sports arena would cost the university about $140 million.
The remainder of the Gateway project would be built in stages, according to a report in the Lansing State Journal, and be paid for through a public private partnership with developer financing. Gillespie developed Lansing’s Stadium District along with the Capital City Market.
