LANSING, MI — Downtown Lansing Inc. has launched a community fundraising campaign for Legendary Women of Lansing. This new public art initiative will celebrate the women whose
leadership, innovation, and advocacy have helped shape Lansing’s history.
According to a press release, the new project will feature original artwork by local artists on eight downtown traffic signal control boxes, along with a permanent large-scale sculpture by La Fille Gallery owner Tiffany Luke, honoring the lasting contributions of legendary women from Lansing’s past and present. Developed in partnership with local artists, historians and community organizations, the initiative aims to tell stories that have too often gone unrecognized in the city’s public landscape.
The fundraising campaign is part of a matching grant opportunity through Patronicity, meaning community contributions can help unlock additional funding to bring the project to fruition.
Every donation, regardless of size, moves the initiative closer to its goal while demonstrating broad community support for investing in Downtown Lansing’s public spaces, according to the press release.
“Public art has the power to tell our community’s story while creating a more welcoming and engaging downtown,” said Cathleen Edgerly, executive director of Downtown Lansing Inc.
