EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan’s tick population is still growing and spreading. A report from M-Live shows the data doesn’t lie: Michigan has a tick problem.
Ticks have slowly moved into Michigan and spread across the state, says Jean Tsao, a professor at Michigan State University who researches ticks and tick-borne illnesses like Lyme disease.
Lyme disease, which is carried by black-legged ticks (also known as deer ticks), effects hundreds across the state each year.
There are parts of the state that ticks especially like – forested areas with lots of moisture – but they can survive in many environments.
