LANSING, MI — Law enforcement agencies across Michigan, including the Michigan State Police, are conducting a high-visibility enforcement effort on Monday July 20 to promote the Move Over laws in the state.
The one-day operation will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today and aims to enhance the safety of first responders and other personnel working on roadways, according to a press release.
As a reminder, the state’s official Move Over law requires drivers to either move over one lane or slow down at least 10 miles per hour below the posted speed limit when approaching an emergency vehicle with its lights activated on the side of the road at all times.
In case moving over is not possible, , officials say drivers must reduce their speed by at least 10 miles per hour below the posted limit and proceed cautiously. The move over law applies to police vehicles, fire or emergency medical services vehicles, construction vehicles and tow trucks.
