DETROIT, MI — The home of the Detroit Tigers is expected to get a new name. The Detroit News reports the Tigers have called a press conference for Monday afternoon where the stadium’s new name is expected to be announced.
Comerica Park has been home to the Tigers since 2000, when the team made the move from Tiger Stadium in the Corktown neighborhood to the new facility in downtown Detroit. However, Fifth Third Bank recenly completed its acquisition of Comerica Bank, necissitating the name change.
The Detroit News points out that the Tigers already have some close connections with Fifth Third that could help dictate the stadium’s next name. The Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers’ Triple-A affiliate, play at Fifth Third Field in the Ohio city.
